With the rainy weather curtailing barbecues and picnics around the country this summer, for many, the current boom in dance-related TV programming has been a welcome diversion. On the other hand, with ITV’s “Baby Ballroom” competing with “DanceX” on the BBC, as well as the screening of “Dancing with the Stars” prior to series five of “Strictly” this Autumn, and the Eurovision Dance Contest in September (see news), there’s an increasing risk of over-saturation. It’s therefore all the more worrying to hear that on Ross McGibbon’s departure, the BBC may be left without a director/producer with a specialist knowledge of performance dance. We want to know your opinions on the subject – is the influx of such reality-style programmes a positive, or a negative step for dance? Tell us what you think and you could win a year’s subscription, and, in the mean time, take a leaf out of the Tango Al Fresco dancers’ books (page 14) and don’t let the rain stop you from dancing the day – or night – away.
