A sad month for the dance world. We have to report the passing of Mark Kindred at the tragically early age of 41 and of Bobbie Irvine, one of the greatest dancers and teachers of dancing the Ballroom world has ever known. Bobbie is fondly remembered by colleagues and one of her closest friends, Pat (Mrs Alex) Moore. Mark was a friend to all of us at Dance Today! as well as throughout the dance world through his long association with Freed of London. Readers may like to be reminded that Bill and Bobbie Irvine wrote their autobiography, The Dancing Years, in 1970. It has long been out of print, but second hand copies may be found and should be in all dance libraries. It’s a wonderful read. As always in July, we bring you the Blackpool Dance Festival report (pages 18-27). Gillian MacKenzie, Blackpool Dance Festival organiser for 24 years, is retiring after this year’s event. She told us about her plans for the future and what it was like dedicating a major part of her life to the Ballroom world.
With the BBC TV show Strictly Come Dancing finished and the winners established - why don’t you let us know what you thought about it?
