June 2008

This month’s issue features a variety of people whose involvement in dance is very different, but nevertheless forms a large part of their lives. Firstly there’s music man Ray McVay, leader of the legendary Glenn Miller Orchestra, whose illuminating observations of ballroom dancers makes for an interesting read (page 22). We also hear from three young couples who give some fascinating insights into the world of competitive dance (page 28), and, along with their parents, provide some helpful advice. As do the dancers featured in the concluding part of Rachelle Stretch’s guide to dance partnerships (page 41), some of whom travelled across the globe in a quest that so many of us, as dancers, are familiar with: to find the perfect partner. Next month you can look forward to full coverage of the Blackpool Festival alongside an exclusive interview from the event. There’s also a preview of London’s Big Dance week, which takes place from July 5–13 and is not to be missed. Visit www.london.gov.uk/bigdance to find out how you can get involved.
